Case Study – Joy, Delivered

Branding Strategies, Case Studies, Design Process & Workflow

Joy Delivered Logo

Most brands don’t stay the same.

They grow alongside the business they represent. What worked at the beginning starts to feel less aligned as the business becomes more defined, more established, and more intentional in how it shows up.

That was the case with Joy, Delivered.

When this client came to me, she already had a visual identity in place. It had been thoughtfully created and gave the business a clear starting point. There were recognizable elements, a defined direction, and a foundation that had supported her through the early stages of growth.

But as the business evolved, the expectations around how the brand needed to function evolved with it.

Joy, Delivered isn’t just a gifting service. It’s built around curated, intentional experiences that reflect relationships, values, and attention to detail. The kind of work where presentation carries just as much weight as the product itself.

At that level, the brand needs to do more than exist.

It needs to hold up.

When a Brand Needs Refinement, Not Reinvention

This project didn’t start with a blank page.

It started with a set of decisions that had already been made.

But over time, those pieces weren’t working together as clearly as they needed to.

Some elements were competing for attention. Others didn’t fully reflect the level of care and craftsmanship behind the business. The foundation was there, but it wasn’t yet operating as a system.

So the work wasn’t about replacing what existed, but restructuring how those elements functioned as a system.

Rebuilding the Structure Through Typography

The most foundational shift in this project came through typography.

The original type choices provided a starting point, but they didn’t fully support the level of craftsmanship and intention behind the business. They didn’t carry the weight the brand needed as it moved into a more elevated space.

So rather than adjusting the typography, it was rebuilt entirely.

A new hierarchy created structure across layouts. Serif type introduced a sense of trust and refinement. The system became something that could guide design decisions rather than react to them.

Creating Clarity by Simplifying

One of the biggest shifts in this project wasn’t what was added.

It was what was removed.

The original identity included a range of visual elements that each brought their own meaning to the brand. Over time, that created a sense of visual competition rather than clarity.

Some elements were removed entirely, allowing the brand to communicate more through tone than literal symbolism. Existing marks were refined so they felt more cohesive with the updated styling.

Joy Delivered Icons

Reworking the Icon System

The icon system was another area that needed alignment.

Originally, the icons varied in both style and subject matter. They functioned more as decorative elements than as a cohesive part of the brand.

That was reworked into a system that felt consistent and purposeful.

Each icon was redesigned to share a unified style and to more directly reflect the business itself. Instead of generic or loosely related imagery, the icons now support the actual experience Joy, Delivered provides. Gifting, process, presentation, and interaction all became part of that visual language.

The icons now function as part of the system rather than as decorative elements.

Joy Delivered Colors

Expanding the Palette for Flexibility

The color palette wasn’t just expanded. It was redefined in how it functions.

The original palette introduced a sense of warmth and approachability, but it didn’t fully carry the range of emotion the brand needed to communicate. As the business evolved, that became more noticeable. The brand needed to feel both elevated and personal. Refined, but never distant.

The updated palette was built to hold that balance.

At its core, deeper tones anchor the brand with a sense of trust, stability, and heritage. These colors create a foundation that feels appropriate for a premium service, reinforcing the idea that this is something considered, not casual.

From there, softer tones were introduced to bring in warmth and approachability. These are the colors that carry the emotional side of the brand. The sense of care, celebration, and connection that sits at the center of the gifting experience.

The interplay between the two is what shifts the overall tone.

Without contrast, the brand risks feeling flat. Too polished, and it becomes impersonal. Too soft, and it loses its sense of structure. This palette allows both to exist at the same time.

It reflects what the brand actually does.

It creates something that feels elevated, but still human. Thoughtful, but never overworked. Intentional, without needing to explain itself.

Designing for Real Use

A brand can look cohesive in a presentation and still struggle in practice.

This project focused on making sure the identity could actually function in the ways the business needed.

Joy, Delivered is rooted in physical experience. Packaging, printed materials, and the moment of receiving a gift are all part of the brand.

That means the visual system needs to hold up beyond the screen.

Hierarchy needed to be clear. Elements needed to be adaptable. The brand needed enough structure to stay consistent and enough flexibility to work across different formats.

Not just something that looks good.

Something that works.

Where the Brand Lands

At the end of this project, Joy, Delivered didn’t become something entirely new.

It became more aligned.

More reflective of the level the business operates at. More capable of supporting the experience it’s built around. More consistent in how it shows up across every touchpoint.

The individual changes are subtle.

But together, they shift how the brand is perceived.

It no longer feels like a collection of elements.

It feels considered.

And if you’re in a season where your brand still feels right, but no longer feels fully aligned with the world around it, that’s often the moment worth paying attention to.
